Indications:
SIMVASTATIN (GENERIC ZOCOR) is used in combination with changes in diet to lower blood cholesterol levels in patients with heart disease and high cholesterol levels. It is also used to treat patients with high lipid levels.
Contraindications:
Do not take SIMVASTATIN (GENERIC ZOCOR) if:
- you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine
- you are pregnant or breast-feeding
- you have active liver disease
Precautions:
Before using SIMVASTATIN (GENERIC ZOCOR), tell your health care provider about any of the following:
- if you are planning to become pregnant
- if you are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
- if you consume more than 3 alcoholic beverages per day
- if you have a history of liver disease
- if you have severe kidney impairment
- if you are taking warfarin
- if you have any other medical condition
Side effects:
Every medicine can cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following occurs:
Most severe:
Muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain; severe allergic reaction (giant hives; swelling of the face or mouth; difficulty breathing).
Most common:
Constipation.
Other:
Diarrhea; indigestion; gas; nausea; weakness; rash; itching; skin inflammation; stomach pain; headache.

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider.
